Excellent Scoil Dara performance secures cup progress

Match report by Conor Dean- Scoil Dara TY GAA Future Leaders Class

Early in the game, Scoil Dara's defence played a very strong high line which was catching the Ardgillan forwards out offside.

In the 15th minute, following a clearance from a free kick taken by Scoil Dara, Ardgillan countered with pace and intent, playing the ball through to their striker who finished off the move to give them the lead.

In the 24th minute, the well-organised Scoil Dara defence won the ball back well and played forward into James McElligott. He then played a great pass over the top of the defence which was picked up by striker Ryan Treacy, who took the ball around the keeper to equalise for Scoil Dara.

In the 30th minute, following a mix-up at the back and a poor clearance from the Scoil Dara defence, the ball fell out to an Ardgillan midfielder who placed it into the bottom corner, putting them into the lead again.

Just on the brink of the half-time whistle, James McElligott, who again played a great through pass to forward Jack Wren. His shot inital was saved, but right winger Adam Dunne was able to score the rebound to bring the sides level again, making it 2-2 at half-time.

It was a very even first half with very little to split the two teams. Scoil Dara would really need to dig in in the second half to get the result they deserved.

Shortly after half-time, a penalty was given Scoil Dara's way as Jack Wren was brought down in the box. He then fired brilliantly into the top corner from 12 yards, to give Scoil Dara the lead for the first time in the game.

In the 50th minute, a great solo goal was scored again by Jack, who put the ball straight into the bottom corner to extend Scoil Dara's lead to two.

In the 63rd minute, following a poor clearance by the Ardgillan defence, Jack powered a strike past the keeper to complete his hat-trick and put Scoil Dara comfortably in front.

In the 67th minute, following a serious foul made by one of the Ardgillan defenders, Scoil Dara were awarded a penalty which was excellently tucked away by Ahmed Elsharkawy.

It was a top-class performance from Scoil Dara. Following a slow start, they were able to overcome a strong Ardgillan side in the end, with very impressive football displayed.
