Scoil Dara girls unbeaten league run continues
Scoil Dara played St. Farnan’s Prosperous in our last group game of the Girls u15 Midlands Division 2 league. Going into today’s match having already secured a win against Blessington and a very enjoyable draw against local rivals Maynooth the girls new a win would see them progress to the next stage of the competition.
Despite the difficult weather conditions the girls showed great teamwork and communication to move the ball around the pitch. Only 7 minutes had elapsed when captain Molly Taylor drilled the ball into the bottom corner from distance to take the lead. Only 3 more minutes had passed before Prosperous drew level. Instead of dropping their heads Scoil Dara took control of the game from this point and went ahead again when Molly Taylor was able to finish expertly after a mazy run through the Farnan’s defence. Molly again scored on 26 minutes to complete her hat-trick ( her second in 3 games) to give Scoil Dara a commanding lead at halftime.
St. Farnan’s never gave up however and scored their 2nd goal soon after halftime to put the pressure on Scoil Dara. Again the girls showed great resilience and organisation to control the game and despite a few good saves from the St. Farnan’s goalkeeper Hannah Donhue finished off the scoring with 15 minutes remaining to give Scoil Dara a 4-2 win.
Goalscorers Molly Taylor and Hannah Donohue bossed midfield throughout the game and were ably assisted by all their teammates with special mention on this occasion going to first years Lucy Walsh, Amy Hedderman and Anna Doyle.
The girls now look forward to the next stage of the competition. With the vast majority of the team still under-age for this competition again next year it is clear the future is bright for Girls soccer in Scoil Dara.
